How to purchase a firearm online or from a non-local dealer:

Purchasing firearms from out of state dealers or online auctions is typically easy and can save you money compared to walk-in retail stores.  Online auctions and Internet firearm sales can sometimes be the only way to get those hard to find or high demand guns you seek.  Combine competitive online discounts, no state sales tax (when purchasing from an out-of-state dealer) and locating just what you want, you can understand why gun collectors choose to transfer.

It is illegal for gun dealers to ship a firearm to non federal licensed dealers or private sellers to ship firearms out-of-state to non federal licensed dealers.

How to buy from a selling dealer and transfer with Legendary Sporting Arms:

  1. Locate, bid, and/or buy the firearm you want online, in store or by calling the selling dealer.
  2. Visit the Legendary Sporting Arms FFL Transfer page for pricing information and transfer application. Complete the application and submit our transfer form or call us with the seller’s information to begin the transfer process.
  3. When your gun(s) arrive at Legendary Sporting Arms, you will be contacted by our sales team.  Appropriate federal paperwork (form 4473) and, if applicable, an FBI NICS background check may be required and for transfer.  North Carolina requires a Handgun Purchase Permit, obtained through your county sheriff’s office, for all handgun purchases and/or transfers.  Standard transfer rates apply and can be found on our FFL Transfers page.  Estimated time for a transfer transaction is 30 minutes.

How to buy from Legendary Sporting Arms and transfer to your local dealer:

  1. Payment is required for purchase, applicable taxes, and shipping.
  2. The contact information for the local dealer you wish to use for your transfer is required.  Gun stores, pawn shops and other sporting goods locations will in most cases have a license and can do the transfer for you.  Check around, transfer rates are not standard and some stores charge higher rates to deter you from buying elsewhere.  Also, some dealers will not transfer items that they stock.  Don’t worry; some dealers would be happy to have your business at reasonable rates.  Expect to pay $25-$40 for transfer.

How to purchase a firearm from a private seller:

We happily accept walk-in transfers for person to person transfers.  Our standard rates apply and can be found on our FFL Transfers page.

  1. Both seller and buyer must be present for transfer documentation.
  2. Buyer is reasonable for appropriate federal paperwork (form 4473) and, if applicable, an FBI NICS background check may be required and for transfer.  North Carolina requires a Handgun Purchase Permit obtained through your county sheriff’s office for all handgun purchases and/or transfers.
  3. Standard transfer rates are due for transfer.  Settlement of firearm cost is the responsibility of the private parties.
